Opening in the July School Holidays, Young People’s Theatre is thrilled to be presenting, for the first time in Newcastle, The SpongeBob Musical. Based on the hit Nickelodeon cartoon, this bubble-filled production follows the adventures of SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy and Squidward on their mission to save the town of Bikini Bottom and have the Best Day Ever!
This musical mash-up features songs from famous artists such as Aerosmith (Bikini Bottom Boogie), Sara Bareilles (Poor Pirates), Panic! At the Disco (Simple Sponge), Cyndi Lauper (Hero is my Middle Name), John Legend (I Guess I Miss You), David Bowie (No Control) and many more. This creative blend of musical styles allows our production to be expressive and innovative, featuring a plethora of contrasting dance genres and staging opportunities in this full-length contemporary musical.

A petition to build a new skate park in the Medowie Town Centre has now reached 1,000 signatures.
Children and young people in Medowie have been making-do with a basic skate park that has fallen into disrepair and has numerous safety hazards, including black mould on all concrete surfaces.
Emma Townend from Medowie Skate & Scoot says “Mallabula/Tiligerry and Anna Bay have had their skate parks replaced in the past two years and now it’s Medowie’s turn. Medowie is undergoing unprecedented growth, with over 1,000 new homes built since 2019 and an expected 6,500 new homes in the next 15 years. The population of Medowie has increased by 43% (forty-three percent!) in the last five years, and twenty seven percent of Medowie residents are less than 19 years of age. While not all kids will use a skate park, about 55% of them do and Medowie needs a new family-friendly, welcoming and inclusive skate park that is suitable for kids of all ages. It is essential that the new skate park is centrally located and highly visible, located in the heart of the Medowie Town Centre alongside recreational facilities like a children’s playground, splash playground, basketball/netball court, BBQs and shaded picnic tables, walking paths, outdoor fitness equipment, a dog park, community garden and space for a coffee van.”
Port Stephens Council have received the petition and Medowie Skate & Scoot’s proposal to build a new skate park in the Medowie Town Centre.
Come down to Woolworths Medowie to sign the petition to build a new skate park in Medowie Town Centre on 9 July 2022.
