Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations boast a rich history of creative expressions that serve to preserve identities through storytelling, painting, song, dance, wood and rock carving. To keep storylines, both traditional and contemporary continuously alive, practicing culture remains true to this day.
Aboriginal ways of knowing and transmitting knowledge are encoded in creative cultural expressions. Munro’s work surveys the intricate philosophy embedded in Aboriginal cultural practice and mark-making.
Philosophies of the Anaiwan draws from Munro’s heritage, the Anaiwan nation of the New England Tablelands. Munro invites viewers to consider the mark-making in all forms in this exhibition as the living voices of his ancestors and extends a warm welcome to consider these works as an invitation into his family’s timeline.
Philosophies of the Anaiwan will be showing at University Gallery from 1 May till the 28 June. Join us with the artist for the launch of the exhibition on 18 May at 2pm.
The Gallery is open from Wed-Fri from 10am – 5pm and Sat 12-4pm

Silly for surGICure is an opportunity for any group, including schools, businesses, sporting groups or just a group of friends, to help support valuable research into gastrointestinal cancers by the Surgeons at the John Hunter Hospital. These cancers take one life every 45 minutes in Australia and are bowel, stomach, oesophageal, pancreatic, liver and colon.
How to get silly is by using crazy hair, socks, shirts, and ties. If you have your own idea, go for it; just enjoy being silly.
Every dollar is valuable towards research as these cancers can affect anyone at any age.
If you can’t get silly on Monday 13 May, you can choose another day that suits you.
For more details contact Kim Barrie, President of surGICure on 0412 1998 31 (please leave a message if I do not answer).

But is being the most popular guy in school worth the risk?

If this was your last day on Earth, what secrets would you reveal?
10.23am on a Wednesday morning. Two robbers enter a bank in the Melbourne CBD.
Employees Julie, Marg, Barb, Zoe, and Lucy are locked in a rear storage room and unless the robbers get what they want, one of them will be eliminated every hour.
Playwright Cerise de Gelder explores the notion that we are all survivors of our own private hostage situations in which work, love and family collide.
This clever, funny new Australian play was inspired by the COVID lockdown in Melbourne. It is about friendships between women, the ties that bind and how crises test us.
Directed by Tracey Owens and featuring a talented ensemble cast.
This production contains mild coarse language and the use of prop weapons.
