NEWCASTLE BRICKFEST 2024
A LEGO Fan Event
Rainbow Bricks is thrilled to announce the return of Newcastle Brickfest in 2024!
Newcastle Brickfest is not only the largest LEGO fan event in NSW but also one of Australia’s premier LEGO fan events. This community event was created by local volunteer LEGO fans for LEGO enthusiasts of all ages. It features some of Australia’s best LEGO builders and over the ten years it has been running, it has donated 140,000 dollars to local schools and charities.
Our LEGO Master Builder’s original creations and displays of LEGO themes are sure to impress and inspire kids of all ages. Visitors can interact with the exhibitors, ask them questions about their exhibits and LEGO in general. There will be displays and activities for all family members to enjoy.
This year, our Cosplaying friends from the Hunter Heroes and Star Wars Characters will join us! Newcastle Brickfest is a family-friendly, not-for-profit event that has supported Newcastle charities for the past ten years. This year’s charity partner is the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Kids Club.
Enjoy the LEGO activities:

Though the characters may be familiar, each of your favorite storybook fables is uproariously derailed in this adaptation of Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith’s quintessential children’s book of fractured fairy tales. Everything from “Chicken Little” to “The Gingerbread Man” gets a complete makeover. Fun music and witty narration accompany the likes of ineloquent giants, sassy barnyard animals, colossal cow pies, and enough stinky cheese to go around.

HIDDEN TREASURES at Miss Porter’s House Museum
Discover hidden treasures at Newcastle’s only UNESCO recognised museum. Marvel at nationally recognised documents from the Miss Porter’s House collection and other rarely seen beautiful and unique family objects.
The Miss Porter’s House Documentary Heritage Collection 1910-1997 is inscribed on the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register joining such priceless items as the First Fleet Journals. The Miss Porter’s House collection is of historical significance for its comprehensive and sometimes quirky coverage of the domestic life of a household of ordinary women living in a regional town across most of the twentieth century. It reflects their working, domestic, family and community lives.
There are about six thousand documents and objects in the collection, and many will be on display for the first time. Visitors will be able to see some of the rare and beautiful items owned and used by Florence, Ella and Hazel Porter.
The women kept scrapbooks of their leisure activities, and these are now a rare record of the detail of early twentieth century social history. The 1935-1938 radio scrapbook and the 1940s movie scrapbook contain press clippings about favourite programs and personalities. Visitors can perhaps relive the radio and cinema habits of their own forebears.
Slightly more unusual are the notebooks in which the Porters recorded household expenses and activities.
How much does a dog cost? In an ordinary exercise book Ella and Hazel kept track of expenses related to their dog Cooee, from the original advertisement, through to food, vitamins and the vet’s bills. Each page is neatly tallied (the women were trained bookkeepers), and we can see that, until his death in March 1990, Cooee cost $1,078.63.
The household documents, wonderful greetings post cards, photographs, and books together with personal objects like Hazel’s parasol and a tiny stylish mother-of-pearl evening purse will all be on display during HIDDEN TREASURES at Miss Porter’s House.

Hunter Drama is pumped to be getting its ‘rock on’ and bringing the smash hit musical School of Rock to the Civic Theatre this July. Based on the Paramount movie by Mike White starring Jack Black, the production features new music by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and promises to be an audience favourite for young and old alike.
Directed by Lauren Harvey, part of the creative team for Billy Elliot the Musical, with musical direction by ARIA nominee Dan Wilson, the show has 14 new songs as well as the original songs from the movie, guaranteed to bring audiences to their feet.
The cast comprises a young ensemble of Hunter Drama emerging stars led by Hunter Drama Artistic Director & professional actor James Chapman, in the hilarious role of Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.
