A buddy-tale with a twist: they’re dead.
All Kevin wanted was to hang out with his mate Dale. Sadly, they’re in a fatal accident (not a spoiler, its very early on) which lands them on The Other Side. But eternity does not afford them the hang-time they might’ve hoped. It turns out making it to Heaven isn’t enough – if you want to get into the nice section, you’re going to have to prove your worth. ‘Dale and Kevin go to Heaven’ is an otherworldly journey in which Kevin tries to find Dale, Dale tries to find himself, and both attempt to worm their way into the Inner Ring.
Newcastle playwrights Jared Mainey and Theo Rule have written and star in this farcical three-hander alongside local favourite Megan Kennedy. Playing multiple deities and pushing multiple buttons, they’re on a mission to produce the greatest play of all time.

Event Details
It’s not always easy to know how to talk about dying. Awkwardness, embarrassment, and
fear means we tend to shy away from connecting with those who are dying or those who are
grieving. But when we don’t talk about what matters it can increase feelings of isolation,
loneliness and distress.
Sunday 5 th June is Dying to Know Day, an annual campaign where people are encouraged
to start conversations about death. In Newcastle the campaign will be marked with an event
where the public is invited to come along and receive practical guidance, information, and
resources on how to say goodbye. Attendees will hear from guest speakers with
presentations around the importance of listening skills, and what those who are dying may
experience as death approaches.
Organiser Ruth Boydell, end of life educator and doula from Lifetimes End of Life Support
comments “There was a time when we used to talk about death, to prepare and plan for a
future without us. It provided comfort and support for everyone involved.”
Australians have skipped a generation or two of being part of their parents; or grandparents;
deaths, as they have been removed to hospital admission or aged care. Death has become
a private medical affair rather than an acceptable human part of life. Ruth continues “We
hope we can open up dialogue at Sunday’s event to assist Novocastrians who are facing
death themselves or the death of a loved one”
The event is supported by many organisations, including James Murray Funerals who will
share information about the process and practical procedures of what to do after someone
dies. This will be followed by a presentation and tour of their facilities. Jane Hanlon from
James Murray Funerals adds. “The process of arranging a funeral can be daunting and
emotional, with those bereaved needing not only support and understanding but practical
advice. Our role is to take away some of the burden whilst fulfilling the wishes of the family”
For further event information phone Ruth Boydell on 0411 165 914.

World Ocean Day on June 8th is a worldwide event aimed at raising awareness for ocean conservation and to lobby governments to protect 30% of the world’s environment by 2030.
This World Ocean Day, Sea Shelter is once again supporting in the efforts towards ocean conservation by encouraging locals to get to the beaches and clean them up!
We’ve seen a huge amount of rubbish in our waterways since the flooding events of recent months and it’s washing up on our beaches. To save it ending up back in the oceans and wreaking havoc on aquatic life, Sea Shelter is urging the public to pick the rubbish up and bring it back to Irukandji to be disposed of appropriately. In return, Irukandji will be giving out Shark Bucks at 10c per piece of rubbish to be used any time for entry or experiences.
This family friendly event takes place on Saturday 11th June, starting at Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters at 2 Jessie Road Anna Bay. Participants must first register online, then pick up their rubbish bags from Irukandji at 10.30am before heading off to a local beach to start collecting.
Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters has generously offered to foot the bill for the rubbish removal as well as providing the Shark Bucks as prizes for everyone who participates.
There’s also a bonus prize on offer for the participant who is judged to have made the most effort and accuracy towards recording their collections for Tangaroa Blue, the organization who keep records of marine debris found around Australia. The winner of that award will get to double their Shark Bucks so they have even more to spend at Irukandji!
As for the grand prize, Sea Shelter have an amazing experience to offer the person or family who collects the most amount of rubbish. As well as winning Shark Bucks, they’ll be invited to attend the next Sea Turtle release as VIP guests, even carrying the healthy turtle down to the water to re-enter the ocean.
Sea Shelter currently has 5 turtles in rehabilitation in their quarantine facility at Irukandji and they are being cared for every day by dedicated volunteers. Their aim is to nurse them back to full health and send them back to their home in the ocean as soon as they are well. It is a great honour for a member of the public to be able to attend and assist in such a special occasion.
