Cessnock Police Station was forced into evacuation on Wednesday afternoon after a man entered the building with a hand grenade.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area, while everyone inside the station including the man was forced to leave.
The Australian Defence Force was called in to remove the device.
NSW Police later Tweeted saying “they weren’t treating the matter as suspicious”.
Investigations continue.
