Dozens of protestors held another demonstration at the Port of Newcastle today, as part of a series of anti-coal protests.

Over 50 activists strapped themselves to equipment and blocked the rail line.

Two elderly people were found strapped to Carrington Railway at around 7am, while around 20 others blocked the road on Kooragang Island.

They’ve since been removed by police.

The incident has prompted the Port to stop work for a number of hours.

It’s understood that police have now arrested a couple of people at the Kooragang Coal Terminal.

At least 5 others were charged over the past fortnight for similar protests along the rail line at Sandgate.
