Man Charged with Assaulting Police at Aberdare

A motorbike rider has been charged after allegedly failing to stop for police at Aberdare yesterday.

Officers say they noticed an unregistered motorbike travelling along Cessnock Road around 6am and attempted to stop it.

The rider allegedly sped off before the pursuit ended with the bike crashing into a police vehicle and trying to flee on foot.

He was subdued by capsicum spray after reportedly assaulting the officers.

Thankfully they only suffered minor injuries.

The 38-year-old was taken to Maitland Hospital for treatment of pre-existing injuries before being charged with fifteen offences including resisting arrest and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

He’s been refused bail and will front Cessnock Local Court on the 16th of January.
