Event Details

Miss Porter’s House will be open to the public from 1-4pm on Sunday, February 11. A display of Everyday Objects: the homemade and the curious, will show you how things have changed in the lives of ordinary Newcastle families over the past century. See how life before electricity was reflected in the objects needed for daily tasks. How the advent of electric frypans, toasters and kettles made the morning breakfast routine easier. See how a butter cooler worked before refrigeration was available. See the fabulous shoetrees used to keep the families leather shoes in top condition, marvel at that mid-century icon, the toilet roll dolly, and be fascinated by information on what an egg has to do with darning or why an iron was SAD.
