Event Details

Make and Mend. Come along and see how the Porter Family women used to make, mend and recycle everything from soap and shoes to flour bags and furniture and much more in a bid to get by after their husband and father passed away. The girls, Ella and Hazel, worked outside the house to support their mother, Florence, but all three women used their skills to live frugally and survive the tough times of the Depression. Join our volunteer guides as you walk through the door and into the life of a family who practised sustainability in the early years of the twentieth century. There is so much to see in the amazing collection preserved with in the home.
