A national health report has found the percentage of obese and overweight people in every suburb across Australia, and it’s bad news for the Hunter.
Raymond Terrace and Scone are the two fastest suburbs in the state with just over 7 out of 10 (70.8%) people obese or overweight.
Other Hunter suburbs that tip the scales are Windale, Mount Hutton (69.2%) and Lemon Tree Passage (68.7%) aren’t far behind.
The Australia’s Health Trackers report found Hunter residents drink, eat and smoke too much but admit the over indulgences are influenced by where residents live.
Residents who live closer to the beach are generally slimmer.
The Junction and Merewether reported the lowest rates of obesity in the region at 57.4%
The Western Australian town of Pinjarra topped the list for Australia at over 3 in 4 adults (76%) obese or overweight.
