Police seek to question more over Darby street brawl

Police have released CCTV images of five men they believe can assist with inquiries after a brawl at Newcastle last month.

Just before 10.30pm on Saturday 8 October 2016, emergency services were called to a licensed premise on Darby Street, Newcastle, after reports of a group of people fighting outside the business.

Officers from Newcastle Local Area Command attended and separated the parties.

Four men – aged 18, 21, 22 and 23 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

During the arrests, it’s alleged two male officers – a sergeant and senior constable – were assaulted.

Three of the men – aged 21, 22 and 23 – were all charged with use offensive language in/near public place, resist officer in execution of duty, assault officer in execution of duty and affray.

The trio will next face Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 8 December 2016.

The 18-year-old man was charged with use offensive language in/near public place and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty and has been dealt with by Newcastle Local Court.

As inquiries continue, police have released CCTV images and would like to speak to five men who may be able to assist them.
